Originally a bungalow, this 1940s home had been remodeled several times, but the spaces were compartmentalized and the kitchen was awkwardly located off of a small hallway between bedrooms. The new homeowners wanted a major overhaul. We began by opening walls and removing the roof to accommodate 10-foot ceilings. We reworked the entire layout, moving the kitchen to the front of the house and connecting it to a new great room and dining space with ocean views from every room. The large center island includes cook-top and seating for five. Contemporary cabinets with horizontal bamboo slab doors, clean lines, drop-down counter-top edge detail and stainless steel hardware an appliances reflect the bright, modern ambiance.
