The original kitchen in this Scrips Ranch home was undersized and had a traditional U-shaped design with a peninsula. In addition to updating the kitchen with a more modern and functional layout, the homeowners wanted a “big kitchen” feel. The existing space was too small to accommodate a large kitchen with island, so we recommended an addition to expand the space.
Our new design eliminated the traditional breakfast nook, replacing it with cabinets and a wraparound 30” high dining bar; this also provided space for a new island with a prep sink. By extending the kitchen cabinetry into the area, we created the feel of a larger kitchen. Rustic beams in a soffited ceiling and scalloped, arched openings reflected the Mediterranean design of the rest of the house.
